Jalal Clemens was born with clay, paint and ink in his blood. Jalal’s art represents his joy in finding and sharing the beauty, unique nature and inner character of whatever he encounters. He attributes his primary source of inspiration to his experience as a student of meditation under the world renowned teacher, artist, musician, athlete and philosopher Sri Chinmoy.
By the time Jalal was five years old he had fallen deeply in love with clay and the potters wheel, winning his first major art award at the age of ten. He has apprenticed as a production potter at Greenbridge Pottery and studied art at Alfred University, repeatedly ranked in as one of the top Ceramic and Studio Art program in the US. Through the years Jalal has received numerous art awards in a variety of media and has been featured in art shows across the US, including a one man show at the historic Uptown Theatre in Washington, DC.
Jalal began creating pen and ink architectural representations in 2004 and formally established Palace Portrayal as part of the You Are Art Studios in 2006. Most recently his pen and ink architectural work was featured in the prestigious 2010 Dallas Oak Cliff Tour of Homes.
To improve community art awareness and responsibility, Jalal has coordinated the creation of numerous public murals and is an avid volunteer photographer. He also enjoys supporting various non-profit groups by donating pieces and services for their charity auctions.
